Gallup-Sharecare Well-Being Index released new data detailing the state and community rankings for diabetes prevalence. A 10-year comparative analysis shows that the rates of obesity and diabetes declined in zero U.S. states. The rate of adults with diabetes rose from 10.8% in 2008-09 to 11.5% in 2016-17; this increase resulted in about 1.7 million more Americans with diabetes today than would have been the case had the rate not changed since 2008-09. More alarmingly, obesity – a key risk factor for diabetes and other chronic conditions – rose in 34 states in the same time period and the rate reached 28.3% nationally.
